All-School Learning Differences Awareness Weeks
This year’s all-school Learning Differences Awareness Weeks will take place from Feb. 24 – March 7, 2025. During these weeks, several discussions, events, and activities will take place within each division and across grade levels to put a spotlight on neurodiversity and the need for greater awareness, advocacy and support for individuals with specific learning differences. Students, families, faculty, and staff will discuss the importance of Wheeler being a neurodiverse affirming and inclusive school community. We hope you will be able to participate in the events listed below!
“Blame It On Gutenberg” Documentary Film: Available to View Through March 7
We are thrilled to offer a virtual screening of this powerful documentary, which focuses on clarifying the roots of dyslexia, identifying what effective and impactful reading instruction and intervention should look like, and spotlighting a moving and groundbreaking case that has opened doors for children with dyslexia and related learning differences. You can view the 70-minute film by clicking on this link (Password: hamilton). A post-film discussion will take place virtually on March 4 (see details below). Fun and interesting fact: One of the documentary’s scenes was filmed on Wheeler’s playground during the pandemic! We hope you enjoy the film and can join the post-film discussion (more info below)!
Parent and Guardian Learning Differences Coffee: Tuesday, February 25
This event will take place from 8:15-9:15am in the Rory and Betsy Smith Conference Room of the Whitaker Building (Hamilton). This is an opportunity for parents and guardians from across school to meet for an informal conversation about a variety of topics related to learning differences. If you are unable to attend in person, you can still join virtually.
Hamilton School Alumni Panel: Tuesday, February 25
This event will take place from 6:30-7:15pm virtually. We have invited a few Hamilton School alumni to share their experiences as individuals with dyslexia and related learning differences, and how their Hamilton experience shaped who they are today. All Wheeler School families are invited to join via GoogleMeet.
“Blame It on Gutenberg” Post-Film Discussion: Tuesday, March 4
This post-film discussion and talk back with the director Rob Delguadio will take place virtually at 7pm. This is the GoogleMeet link to participate.
