Together Again for Field and Founder’s Day

May 18, 2023

In what Head of School Allison Gaines Pell P’23, P’25 called “a perfect combination of events to celebrate our founder, Mary C. Wheeler, and our motto, ‘the spirit giveth life,’” Wheeler held it’s second-annual Field and Founder’s Day last Friday, though each of the events has a history a bit longer than that. It was the eighth Founder’s Day–when students, faculty, and staff participate in community service activities across our local communities, and the 109th edition of Field Day–when students compete in a series of Purple vs. Gold athletic events at Wheeler Farm. “We work to benefit our souls and our community through service in the morning and our bodies and spirit in the afternoon through joy and good-natured competition,” AGP said in her opening address.

You can see some of the great moments from this spirit-filled day in the photos below. Thank you to Upper School Teacher of Physics Tammy Kjonaas, Middle School Cityside Director Joe Baer P’08, and Lower School Aerie Coordinator Liz MacMillan for planning our meaningful morning of service; thank you to the Athletics and Physical Education departments for creating a memorable and exciting Field Day experience; and thank you as well to the Wheeler School Broadcasting students and staff who produced the video that’s featured in this story.
