The Rise of Anti-Asian Racism

Dear Wheeler community,

Multiple incidents around the country have allowed us to take a stark look at the rise of hate crimes in recent months against Asian Americans. While we as a community strongly condemn these attacks and stand by our friends and family in the Asian community, we must also remember to stand up and actively combat these acts of overt racism and violence. As Representative Judy Chu of California states in the Washington Post  “this is a crisis point for the Asian American community.”

All of us at Wheeler consistently remind our students that an offense against one individual or group is an offense against all of us. As a community, we recommit our efforts to rise up and resist against all forms of racism and bigotry and extend our love and support for the Asian American community. In addition, you may access resources on discussing racism and hate crimes with young children on our school’s diversity, equity and inclusion page.

Thank you for your continued caretaking and vigilance for our community and one another.

In solidarity,

Princess Sirleaf Bomba, Director of Unity and Diversity and Allison Gaines Pell, Head
