Wheeler Student Art Sale & Hope for Haiti 2021

March 11, 2021

Thank you for your support!

I am so happy to announce that Wheeler raised $7,615 for Patriote de la Zone School! Thank you to our Open Mic Night/Hope for Haiti performers, organizers, and producers, and to the art department and student artists for supporting the school with this year’s Wheeler Art Sale. Thank you also to everyone who made donations and purchased art, with special thanks to the matching support by our generous faculty member. This gift will make a tremendous impact on the lives of the students and teachers at Patriote de la Zone and is a sign of hope and good will in the midst of a challenging year. Ann Bruno

Wheeler Student Art Sale 2021

Each year, Wheeler artists contribute their talents to an art auction to support a nonprofit cause. This year, the auction has become an online art sale and all items are $5.00!  Proceeds from the purchase of these high-quality digital works will support the Patriot de la Zone School in Jacmel, Haiti.  Thank you to all who purchased art this year. EVERY artist had a sale on behalf of this cause.

Hope for Haiti 2021

In 2010, after the devastating earthquake hit outside of Port au Prince, Open Mic Night/Hope for Haiti took shape as an opportunity to gather before spring break to celebrate our students’ talents as musicians and poets, and to donate to Patriote de la Zone, a school founded by members of the Providence Haitian-American community, including former Wheeler parent, Jean Robert Francois. Since 2008, the school has provided the only opportunity for 300 children of the Vergeon Valley to learn how to read and write. Over the years, Wheeler’s support has helped to contribute to initiatives such as providing a water source for the school, lunches, and also a medical mission led by Dr. Karim Khanbai, also a Wheeler parent. Last year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to cancel Hope for Haiti a few days before the event. This year, we are thrilled to present this virtual event showcasing incredible performances by our students and faculty. If you are interested in supporting Patriote de la Zone, you can donate via GoFundMe, or by dropping off a check made out to Patriote de la Zone with Ann Bruno at Wheeler. Thank you for your support!
