We are happy to share that 10 Wheeler students have been named semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program! Congratulations to Jared K. ’24, Isabelle M. ’24, Luke N. ’24, Phoebe P. ’24, Avery P. ’24, Andrew S. ’24, Jacquelyn S. ’24, Annie X. ’24, Kelly Y. ’24, and Aneekah Y. ’24. They now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships that will be offered beginning next spring.

Over 1.3 million (then) juniors across the United States entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

To become a finalist, each semifinalist and a high school official must now submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

The 2024 National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in a series of news releases next spring and summer. Good luck to all of our Wheeler students who continue in the selection process, and congratulations again on being named semifinalists!
