Congratulations to Philip Spradlin ’26 for advancing to the National semifinals of the International Geography Bee! The Bee is a worldwide geography quiz competition consisting of multiple stages, beginning with a National Qualifying Exam, followed by Regional Competitions, the U.S. National Championships, and the biennial IGB World Championships.

Philip says the best part of participating in the National Championships, which were held Labor Day weekend in Washington, DC, was “the excitement of seeing what I knew and the thrill of being the first to answer a particularly tricky question. I also loved traveling to DC and getting to see a lot of the different monuments and museums in the city.”

Philip’s performance in the National Championships qualified him for the IGB World Championships. In addition to the International Geography Bee, he also competed in the National History Bee. Philip says he is already looking forward to participating in next season’s competitions.
