Mary Wheeler’s Art To Be Exhibited at Providence Art Club in May, 2020

September 11, 2019

In the spring of 2020, two longstanding Rhode Island art institutions will join together to celebrate the artistic legacy of Mary Colman Wheeler. Founder of the Wheeler School and long-time member of the Providence Art Club, Mary Wheeler was a driving force in the artistic community of Rhode Island for nearly forty years. The upcoming exhibit (May 9 – 29) at the Art Club will mark one hundred years since a memorial exhibit held at the Art Club after Wheeler’s death in 1920. The exhibit will represent the largest collection of Wheeler’s paintings assembled since the 1920 show, including never before seen works from private collections and museums outside of Rhode Island. A special alumni event is being planned for May 15, Mary Wheeler’s birthday.
