HOURS FOR APRIL 24-25, 2020

Friday, April 24, 10 AM – 8 PM
Saturday, April 25, 9 AM – 3 PM

The Wheeler School’s Famous Clothing & More Sale returns for its seventh decade of fabulous deals on clothing (and more) for the whole family, April 24-25, 2020, in the Wheeler School gymnasium at 407 Brook Street (between Angell and Meeting Streets) on the East Side of Providence.

Admission is free and you will find a bargain shopper’s paradise of new and gently-worn women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, books, sporting gear, antiques, accessories, household items, games and toys at this once yearly “pop-up” department store. The ever-popular Designer Boutique is being expanded this year, with a larger footprint and additional inventory. This year the Boutique will feature top-quality contemporary brands as well as designer labels for men, women, and children at modest prices. High-end shoes and accessories will also be available.

All of the merchandise at The Famous Wheeler Clothing & More Sale has been carefully sorted, organized, and curated by Wheeler School volunteers to guarantee shoppers high-quality merchandise at the lowest prices possible.

This much-anticipated, yearly event is sponsored and run by The Wheeler School Parents Association. Parents, teachers, students, staff, and alumni donate thousands of volunteer hours in order to provide an unparalleled shopping experience! Proceeds from the sale benefit The Wheeler School and Breakthrough Providence, a national program that creates a pathway to college for Providence public middle school students and inspires high school and college-age students to pursue careers in education.

This year’s parent chairpersons are Gretchen Coleman, Stephanie Norin, and Carla Petrocelli.

What is the Famous Wheeler Clothing & More Sale?

This ever-popular and much-anticipated East Side event has been benefiting the New England community and supporting education for 73 years.  Wheeler’s Clothing & More Sale transforms the Madden gym into a 2-day, pop-up retail store with gently-worn and brand new clothing for men, women, and children, plus sporting goods, books and household items, in the Housewares department, and designer wear in our famous Boutique section.
Net proceeds support financial aid for Wheeler students as well as Breakthrough Providence, a program for low-income, academically-motivated middle school students in the Providence public schools.

  • Clothing and accessories for men, women, and children for all seasons (no swimwear, pajamas, or undergarments)
  • Boutique and finer clothing for men, women, and children
  • T-shirts (give us your best ones only – not the ones you get with all sorts of advertising logos!)
  • Accessories:  belts, hats, scarves, bags, ties, etc.
  • Sporting goods (such as bikes, lacrosse sticks, ice skates, etc.)
  • Household items, decorative items, smaller furniture
  • Small appliances (please make sure they work)
  • Books
  • Footwear:  preferably new or rarely worn.  We can’t sell shoes that are down-at-the-heel or in need of repair.

Alice & Olivia,  Armani, Bloomingdales, Bruno Cucinelli, Calvin Klein, Free People, DKNY, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Hermes, Jil Sander, Kate Spade, Kors, Marc Jacobs, Milly, Missoni, Nanette Lepore, Neiman Marcus, Prada, Theory, Tory Burch, 7 For All Mankind and many more….

Technology becomes obsolete so quickly, we don’t know if they actually work, and they take up lots of space.  We do not have a way to dispose of these items.  Often Wheeler will hold an E-waste drive during Earth Week and publicize it in advance to parents through the parent email newsletter.

Toys and Stuffed Animals
Many toys typically have multiple pieces so it is very labor-intensive to make sure everything stays together.  Stuffed animals, new or otherwise, may harbor germs and may be unhygienic.

Local charities sign-up to shop at the end of sale and take for free what is needed for their organization.  Any remaining items go to local charities, such as Salvation Army, Big Sisters, Rhode Island Donation Exchange, etc.

PARTICIPATE IN ANY WAY!  Our goal is for 100% participation in the Wheeler community.  Please spread the word about the clothing sale, donate items, help during a Donation Drop Off Day, volunteer during set-up week, work the sale, and shop (of course!).
