Hearing (and Congratulations) from Head of Upper School Neeltje Henneman

“There are lots of things that we’re trying to do during high school…”

…says Head of Upper School Neeltje Henneman says on a recent episode of The This Week at Wheeler Podcast. “We’re trying to teach students to be critical thinkers and compassionate citizens. We’re trying to meet them where they are academically. But my goal for the high school kids is that they leave here at the end of their four-year experience ready to tackle whatever is next with a good foundation of skills, with questions, with the tools they need to pursue those questions, and I think fundamentally what we want for people in the world is that they find work that matters to them, relationships that matter to them, and that they’re people who we want to have dinner with in five years.

“Achieving those goals for the kids is what I think motivates teachers [at Wheeler] every day. We have such an amazingly passionate faculty who work so hard to provide the kids with the tools that they need and share with them their love of learning. As teachers think about the classes they plan, as department heads think about the curriculum they provide, as we think about all of the programming that we provide, we are always looking at it through the lens of meeting kids where they are and getting them to the next place.” Listen to the conversation below to hear more!
