Aerie Literary Voices Pre-College Summer Writing Workshop
The Wheeler School’s Aerie program, providing school-wide enrichment through extensive curricular and extracurricular offerings for almost a half-century, is proud to announce the start of a new summer workshop geared to pre-college students who want to participate in an intensive two-week summer writing program.
Whether you write poems, short stories, fantasy, humor, memoirs, novels, or screenplays—this program is for you! Here at Wheeler, you will discover from our national award-winning faculty how to expand your creative imagination while also sharpening critical skills for writing fiction, poetry, movie scripts, plays, and essays.
Learning Goals and Outcomes
- Develop a voice and style, distinguishing your writing as your own
- Mine personal experience to expand your imagination
- Use writing as a means to improve critical and intuitive thinking
- Use existing literary forms, structures, styles, and traditions in making artistic choices
- Shape a poem: lineation, stanza structure, rhythm, and sound
- Create and develop compelling plots, interesting characters, vivid scenes, memorable dialogue, resonant imagery, and narratives
Fee and Program Dates
There will be two sessions held in Summer 2024:
- Program tuition per session is $2,125
- Session 1: July 8 – July 19
- Session 2: July 22 – August 2
- Classes meet
- Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
