Aerie Literary Voices Pre-College Summer Writing Workshop

The Wheeler School’s Aerie program provides school-wide enrichment through extensive curricular and extracurricular offerings for almost a half-century is proud to announce the start of a new summer workshop geared to pre-college students who would like to participate in an intensive two-week summer writing program.

Whether you write poems, short stories, fantasy, humor, memoirs, novels, or screenplays—this is the program for you! Here at Wheeler, you will discover from our national award-winning faculty how to expand your creative imagination while also sharpening critical skills for writing fiction, poetry, movie scripts, plays, and essays.

 

Learning Goals and Outcomes

• How to develop a voice and style, distinguishing your writing as your own.
• How to mine personal experience to expand imagination.
• How to use writing as a means to improve critical and intuitive thinking.
• How to use existing literary forms, structures, styles, and traditions in making artistic choices.
• How to shape a poem: lineation, stanza structure, rhythm, and sound.
• How to create compelling plots, develop interesting characters, vivid scenes, memorable dialogue, make use of resonant imagery, and shape narratives.

Classes will take place on Monday–Thursday from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:00–4:00 PM.
