New Head of Advancement Announced

August 31, 2019

The Wheeler School is pleased to announce that Rachel Spaulding will join the Wheeler community as our new Head of Advancement October 15.

Rachel has worked at Brown University for the past 19 years and is a graduate of that institution. She worked in Communications in former President Ruth Simmons’ office for several years, and then transitioned into Advancement, where she has worked on alumni class campaigns, major giving and most recently, as Senior Director of Parent and Family Giving.

After a national search, and interviews with alumni, parents, trustees, administration and the Advancement Office staff, there was unanimous agreement that Rachel was the obvious choice.  Happily, she accepted with equal enthusiasm. Here’s what she had to say about the decision:

“As a resident of the East Side of Providence for over two decades, the Wheeler School’s excellent reputation has long been present in the background of my awareness. It was when I encountered the school’s new mission statement this summer that I snapped to attention:  in just ten perfect words, I thought, this statement of purpose speaks directly to my values. As I dug deeper into the strategic direction set forth by the Wheeler community, I started to feel hooked; once I began to get to know the people who make up the Wheeler community — and perceived the depth of their commitment, their openness, and their camaraderie — I was completely captivated. I feel so fortunate to have been given this opportunity, and I cannot wait to join the team and get to work advancing Wheeler’s worthy mission.”
