Director of Technology Receives 2020 Wheeler Trustee Award

November 4, 2020

The Wheeler School Board of Trustees awarded its 2020 Trustee Award to Karie Hayes, Director of Technology, during a recent Trustee Meeting.

The award, created in 2000, honors an adult member of the School community — a trustee, faculty, staff, or friend of the School — who best represents these four criteria:

• extraordinary character and integrity
• love of the School as expressed in thought, word, and deed
• willingness to give of self to the community aka ‘unsung hero’
• continuous dedication to the betterment of The Wheeler School

In presenting the award, Allison Gaines Pell said, “Many do not know that Karie arrived here in 1986, hired by Jeanette Epstein in Admissions when contracts were printed on dot-matrix printers. Karie has brought the School from a no-internet-no-email existence through our infancy, toddlerhood, and adolescence as a tech-savvy school. She has been a terrific leader to an equally-tireless Technology team, and is especially deserving of thanks in this all too overwhelming 2020 year.”

Because the Trustee Meeting was held over Zoom, Karie’s family, including her two children who are Wheeler graduates, could attend.
