A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, where she served as team captain and earned NCAA Division III All-American status, Kristin Heynen begins her 6th year leading the swimming program at Wheeler.
Heynen has played an integral role in growing the sport of swimming at Wheeler. She has served as the team’s head coach since the program’s creation and has helped establish the Warriors as one of the most competitive teams in Rhode Island. Her team’s captured the 2017 and 2018 RIIL Boys Division II State Championship Title, as well as the 2016 Providence Cup Boys Championship. The girls team is also a perennial contender in the RIIL with a 2nd and 3rd place finish in DII during the last two seasons. They fell short of the championship by a mere 4 points the last two seasons.
An art teacher for 22 years and a Wheeler teacher and parent for 11 years, Heynen is a veteran educator and coach who brings her passion for art and swimming to the classroom and the pool.
