Thank you for your interest in The Wheeler School! The application season for the 2017-18 school year is in full swing, and below you will find a list of the application requirements and the suggested and final (required) deadlines. At the bottom of the page you can also read a description of each item, organized by division (Lower School, Middle and Upper School, Hamilton School).

Applicants who complete the process by the deadline will receive admission, and, if applicable, financial aid decisions on Friday, March 3.

The Standard Application Online (SAO): In addition to the Wheeler-specific application materials, we are happy to accept applications through the SSAT's Standard Application Online (SAO). Visit https://ssat.org/sao for more information about how to use this tool.

International Applicants: We require all of our international applicants to go through the Roosevelt International Academy (RIA) program in order to apply for admission to our school. Applicants who submit all materials by the required deadlines will be reviewed during the first round of admissions and will receive admission and, if applicable, financial aid decisions on Friday, March 3rd.

We will make every effort to provide decisions by March 3rd for applicants who submit materials after the deadlines.

After the March 3rd decision date, applications will be processed on a rolling basis, and offers of admission will be made if there is space available in the given grade.

Lower School

  • Age Requirements

    Nursery applicants must be three (3) years old by September 1, 2017. 
    Pre-Kindergarten
    applicants must be four (4) years old by September 1, 2017
    Kindergarten applicants must be five (5) years old by September 1, 2017.
  • Parent Meeting and Classroom Observation

    All LS applicant parents should meet with the Director of Admissions and tour campus. In addition, parents are welcome to observe in classrooms to help get a sense of whether Wheeler would be a good fit for your child. Please call (401.421.8100 EXT. 231) or email (Admissions@wheelerschool.org) to schedule your meeting, tour, and, if you'd like, classroom observation
  • Application

    Complete the online application and submit the non-refundable application fee of $60. You must complete the online aplication before your campus visit.
  • Campus Visit

    To set up a visit call 401.421.8100 EXT. 231, or email Admissions@wheelerschool.org.
    • Nursery - Kindergarten applicants will spend 30 minutes in the classroom.
    • Grade 1 through Grade 5 applicants will be hosted by a Wheeler student in his/her current grade for a full day.
    **Please note that the online application must be completed before the campus visit occurs.**
  • Transcripts

    Submit transcript(s) that include grades for the past 2.5 years. You may proivde a Transcript Release Form to your school(s) to request the records, or send us copies of report cards that you already have.
  • Teacher Recommendations

    Request that your child's current teacher complete the N-1st Grade or 2nd-5th Grade Teacher Recommendation Forms.
  • Financial Aid (Optional)

    Starting November 1, 2016 you can submit the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) and related tax forms through School & Student Services (SSS).

Middle & Upper School

  • Parent Meeting

    We encourage MS and US applicant parents to tour campus and meet with the Director of Admissions so that you can get a sense of whether Wheeler would be a good fit for your child. To set up a visit call 401.421.8100 EXT. 231, or email Admissions@wheelerschool.org.
  • Application

    Complete the online application and submit the non-refundable application fee of $60. The application must be completed before your campus visit.
  • Campus Visit

    To set up a visit call 401.421.8100 EXT. 231, or email Admissions@wheelerschool.org. Applicants to Grades 6-12 visit for a full day (7:50am-3pm).

  • Transcripts

    Submit transcripts that include grades for the past 2.5 years. You may provide the Transcript Release Form to your school(s) to request the records, or send us copies of report cards that you already have.
  • Teacher Recommendations

    Request that a current MATH teacher and a current ENGLISH teacher complete the Teacher Recommendation Forms. Please use our Teacher Recommendation Forms for these two required documents.
  • Testing

    Take either the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) . Indicate The Wheeler School as a recipient of your scores (Code: 8170).
  • Financial Aid (Optional)

    Starting November 1, 2016 you can submit the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) and related tax forms through School & Student Services (SSS).

Hamilton School

  • Overview

    To ensure that The Hamilton School is an appropriate fit for students with learning profiles that include language-based learning differences, the admission process is similar to that of Lower School applicants with the following exceptions:
  • Testing

    Send in your child's current psycho-educational or neuropsychological-educational evaluation, as well as any reports from specialists, including speech/language specialists and tutors.

    All evaluations should be sent to Anna DiStefano via email (annadistefano@wheelerschool.org) or mail (The Wheeler School c/o Anna DiStefano, 216 Hope Street, Providence, RI 02906).
  • Parent Meeting

    After your child's testing materials have been reviewed, Anna DiStefano will contact you to schedule a meeting with the Director of Admissions and the Head of Hamilton School. During this meeting you'll discuss your child's evaluation as well as wehther Hamilton can meet his or her needs. You'll also go on a tour of the Hamilton School.
  • Campus Visit

    Applicants visiting The Hamilton School will spend TWO full days with us. After the Parent Meeting Anna DiStefano will contact you to schedule a visit.
