Who are ideal Wheeler School candidates?
Ideal candidates for faculty and staff positions at Wheeler are people with a sense of humor, warmth, and humility. They are excellent communicators, with empathy for others and an ability to listen, as well as the desire to learn from colleagues. They are ambitious and hard-working, often going over and above to support and challenge students. When developing curriculum and programming, our faculty and staff members are restless, striving each year to stretch and grow, to implement new ideas that improve the Wheeler experience for students and our overall community. More than anything, our faculty and staff members love to spend their days with young people, and enjoy all that the Wheeler community — creative, energetic, dynamic, and diverse — has to offer.
Environment and Benefits
Wheeler’s East Side campus is beautiful, historic, modern, artistic, and inspiring. Boundaried by a city block, recent renovations facilitate many different types of learning and a vibrant, energetic campus for our four divisions — Lower School, Middle School, Upper School, and our Hamilton “school within a school” for students with learning differences. Our Farm campus, just 12 minutes away, is a 120-acre complement to the urban landscape, where the Middle School 6th Grade Farm Program takes place, where teams compete, and where walking trails provide opportunities for exploration and contemplation. Our location within the heart of College Hill in the capital of the State of Rhode Island provides an environment rich with cultural, recreational and collegial opportunities. You can learn more from the Visitor's Bureau here.
The benefits of working in a healthy, dynamic community in the heart of a creative and beautiful city are many. (Providence was just written about in Vogue
.) Nature, diversity, good food, and the arts enrich our daily experience and make Rhode Island a wonderful place to live and work. At Wheeler, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including comprehensive medical and prescription drug plans, Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), Dental, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), 403(b) Retirement Plan, Vision, Life and AD&D, Voluntary Life Insurance, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability Insurance, Wellness and Work-Life Programs, and Benefits Concierge services.
Wheeler draws its students from around the State, as well as southeastern Massachusetts and parts of Connecticut. At least 43% of Wheeler students live in the Greater Providence area of Pawtucket, Central Falls, Providence, East Providence, and North Providence.
At Wheeler we actively seek students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds in the belief that a broad range of experiences and viewpoints enhance learning, enrich life on campus, and better prepare us all for full participation in a pluralistic, democratic society. We seek to further the overall diversity within our community through hiring.
Additionally, we are committed to a policy of nondiscrimination and equal opportunity for all employees and qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin or disability, and any other category protected by federal, state or local law.
