Athletics at Wheeler

Dynamic coaches combined with versatile and passionate teammates in a nurturing and supportive community are the recipe for Wheeler’s long-standing success as a small independent school in the Rhode Island and New England sports landscape.

Wheeler’s athletic program consistently produces student-athletes ready to excel at the intercollegiate level in the athletic arena and the classroom. About 15-20% of each graduating class is recruited at some of the very best NCAA schools and programs in the country. It is there that our Warriors demonstrate their Wheeler-learned skills of hard work, collaboration, competitiveness, responsibility, and winning and losing with dignity.

In the last two decades, Wheeler’s 73 athletic championships rank among the very best schools in the Greater Providence and Boston areas. With 14 interscholastic sports, 50 Middle and Upper School teams, and more than 600 athletic contests each year, there are countless opportunities for student-athletes of various interests and skill levels.

Wheeler offers a robust and competitive athletic experience for dedicated student-athletes. Our programs provide a framework for all types of student-athletes who seek to stay physically active, pursue challenges, and seek enjoyable experiences to accompany their education and personal growth.

Whether as leaders in one of the school’s 52 student-run clubs and organizations, crooners in the school’s acapella group 18 Wheelers, or artists in our nationally-renown visual arts programs, our well-rounded Warriors contribute to the Spirit of the Wheeler community well beyond their athletic achievements!

Alumni Athletes

Our alumni have achieved great success after making us proud as student-athletes at Wheeler. Here are their stories.

Safe Sports School

The Wheeler School is one of the few schools, whether public or private, that has a full-time Athletic Trainer. This has earned the school a “First Team” ranking from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and a “Safe Sports School” award. This award recognizes secondary schools that meet recommended standards to improve safety in sports and champions safety. The award reinforces the importance of providing the best level of care, injury prevention, and treatment.
