The Lower School’s Early Childhood program introduces your young student to the seemingly magical process of learning. Our Nursery, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten classrooms are stimulating, colorful environments where children are inspired to wonder and encouraged to discover. During the Early Childhood years, your child can participate in a sophisticated play-based curriculum with faculty members dedicated to making sure your child has a rewarding personal experience every day. Whether the challenge lies in the area of literacy development, mathematical concepts, or personal awareness, children in the early childhood program succeed in an extraordinarily rich, joyful, diverse and supportive family atmosphere.
What Are Forest Fridays?
Every Friday, year-round, students in Nursery, PreKindergarten, and Kindergarten enjoy going to The Wheeler Farm for Forest Friday. The day begins at 9:00 with a bus ride to the Farm followed by snack and storytime. After this collaborative start to the morning, children go together with their homeroom teachers to their forest classrooms to enjoy inquiry-based learning, mindful moments, observations of nature and fun playing and exploring together. The morning concludes at 11:30 when students and teachers meet back at the bus to return to Wheeler’s Providence campus.
