Providence College Coach Ed Cooley Is 2012 Graduation Speaker

Providence College's head basketball coach Ed Cooley will be the 2012 graduation speaker for The Wheeler School. Cooley will address the Wheeler Class of 2012 and their families at Commencement at the Farm, Friday, June 8 at 10 a.m. Cooley became the 15th head coach at PC in March 2011 after spending five seasons at Fairfield University.

Prior to coming to Providence, Cooley guided Fairfield to a school-record 25 wins and a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season title in 2010-11. He was named the 2011 MAAC Coach of the Year. He also earned United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) District I Coach of the Year honors. His 2011 squad finished the season with a 25-8 mark (15-3 MAAC) and advanced to the second round of the NIT. Cooley, a native of Providence, attended Central High School and earned two Rhode Island High School Player of the Year honors. He also did a post-graduate year (1988-89) at North Hampton Prep and graduated from Stonehill. He and his wife, Nurys, have one daughter, Olivia, and one son, Isaiah.
